Condo Insurance Made Clear

When you move into a condo, the condo association will should have its own policy. This policy covers the public areas of the building, the building structure, and liability insurance. You will need your own insurance policy to cover what isn’t covered by the association’s policy–but what is that?

  1. Your personal belongings. This includes furniture, appliances and personal effects. Should your belongings be damaged by fire, flood or theft, you will be protected.
  2. The inside of your condo. You probably know by now that the inside of your condo is your responsibility–including the walls, the floors, and the pipes. Should this become damaged by fire or flood, it won’t be covered by the association’s policy.
  3. Liability. This protects you from liability of any bodily injury or personal property damage that may occur on your property.
